December 3: Detroit Rooftop

Read the news about Detroit and you’re probably reading about sports, crime, or poverty. But Midtown’s 39th annual Noel Night outshined all of that bad publicity. As the sun set, our small group of friends ventured to find parking, walked through historic Detroit estates, shopped the art vendors at the art school, jammed with the Blind Boys of Alabama in a [gorgeous] congregational church, and sang carols as we walked.

As the city began to sleep, we headed to another friend’s apartment for some continued holiday cheer (and cookies and coffee!). Meeting new friends, discussing God’s amazing grace, and drinking warm beverages, we made sure we had the opportunity to head up to the rooftop of this old city hotel to view the city.
